Halibut Fishing

Homer Alaska is the “halibut fishing capital of the world!” The ecosystem in South-Central Alaska is a perfect environment for fish to thrive. Our goal is to get the halibut from the ocean to your dinner plate!

During the halibut portion of your charter, we will use the technique of bottom-fishing. HGC will provide all the necessary fishing tackle and bait for your trip. The captain and deckhand will demonstrate the proper style for halibut fishing and will be on-site to assist you throughout your fishing excursion.

Heavens Gate Charters is very good at accommodating inexperienced anglers. You don’t need to be an expert to have fun and be successful with us. It’s usually the kids who catch the biggest fish!

We will focus a large portion of the day on halibut. It is uncommon that we don’t catch our daily halibut limit for each angler. But hey, it’s fishing.

On a typical trip, we will run between 10 and 40 miles offshore to the fishing grounds. On average, the run time is about 45 minutes depending on sea conditions and travel speed. Our boat, Dreamcatcher II, is powered with two 200 horse power Yamaha motors and can quickly get us around to the good spots.

The Cook Inlet, our primary fishing ground, has an extraordinary tide. We will be fishing in an area with the second largest tidal fluctuation in the Northern Hemisphere of the world! Fortunately, Captain Seth knows his area and with his expertise will give you a good chance at landing that big one! Let’s go fishing!
